Idly Podi - Less Spicy Version

Idly Podi is a delicious Side dish for idlies and we love it with dosas too. The days when I don’t feel like making any side dish, I always look out for a spoonful of Milagai podi. Though this version is slightly different than the usual one, it is equally tasty and tongue appealing.

Ingredients:

Urad dal
1 Cup
Channa Dal
1 Cup
Peanuts (optional)
30 no
Peppercorn
1 &1/2 tsp
Red Chillies
20-25
Sesame Seeds
 2 tbsp
Salt
As needed
Curry leaves(optional)
Few
Hing
1/4tsp

Method:
  • Dry roast all the ingredients separately until golden brown. Do not let anything burn at any point. Cool down the ingredients completely.

  • Grind Red chillies, Salt and hing together for a minute.
  • Add all the other ingredients and grind to a coarse powder.Store in an airtight container.

  • While serving, add sesame oil to the podi and serve with idlies, dosas or Uthappams.

Notes:
  • ·         Roasting all the ingredients to appropriate color is the key to get a nice color for the podi.
  • ·         Always keep the flame in medium while frying.
